Many residents and visitors to Quinte West, Prince Edward County and Brighton have been hoping for a new Murray Canal Bridge to be constructed with two lanes.
Northumberland-Quinte West MP Rick Norlock made the announcement in QW Council chambers Tuesday night stating that Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, has confirmed that funding has been allocated to construct a double-lane bridge on County Road 64.
Norlock says his constituents gave him orders to find extra funds following a public meeting in April 2014. At the meeting Norlock said that there were no funds to build larger structure and Parks Canada would replace the current bridge with one of the same size and structure.
